The news felt like a physical blow. The world blurred. He found Liam in the park, sitting on a bench, looking at a textbook. He saw the characters, the flowing script – it was Russian.

He felt the ground give way beneath his feet. His vision swam. He stumbled towards Liam, his legs unsteady.

“What is that?” he croaked, the words barely audible. The air around him felt thin, difficult to breathe.
