"Where did you get that?" The words hung in the air, heavy and accusing, as Mark's mother stared at the wallet. He'd gone home to visit, hoping to share some good news, but the wallet’s discovery had changed everything. He felt a searing pain.

He’d been struggling, the weight of his job, his failing relationships, all bearing down. This money could fix everything, provide the comfort and ease he so desperately sought. However, his mother's glare felt like a judgment.

His palms began to sweat. He pictured the owner, their desperation, the loss. He knew he had to do the right thing, return the wallet, but the temptation was a physical force, pulling him away.
