He paces the living room, the Persian rug feeling rough beneath his bare feet. The grandfather clock in the hallway, once a comforting presence, now seems to tick with a malevolent rhythm, each second a hammer blow against his skull. His sister wants to sell their grandfather’s watch – a gold pocket watch passed down through generations.

A tremor ran through his hands as he picked up the phone. His sister's cheerful voice, a constant background noise to his life, grated on him today. He had to stop her. He had to convince her. But the words stuck in his throat, choked by an invisible hand.

He slammed the phone down. The sound echoed in his ears, a stark reminder of his helplessness. He felt pinned down, like a butterfly under a pinning board. The watch was a piece of him, a tangible link to a past he couldn’t bear to lose.
