A cold sweat slicked down Maya's back as she stared at the official document. The university’s emblem, usually a beacon of hope, now mocked her. She had built her entire future on this. This scholarship. She’d worked so hard, sacrificed so much. Now, it was… gone. Stolen.

She felt a strange disconnect, like she was watching herself from a distance. Her hands trembled as she reached for her phone, intending to call her mother. She stopped, the words caught in her throat. How could she explain? How could she tell her she’d failed, when her mother had pinned all of her hopes on Maya’s success?

She found herself walking, aimlessly, through the campus. The vibrant greens of the manicured lawns seemed unnaturally bright, the laughter of other students grated on her ears. Every face she saw felt like a judgment, every conversation a reminder of the life she was about to lose. She eventually collapsed onto a bench, her breath coming in shallow gasps, fighting off a wave of nausea.
