The bus rattled along the highway, the scenery blurring past. Through his earbuds, a cover of "Crimson Sky" blasted through, but it was butchered. The singer, some young thing with a generic voice, rushed through the lyrics, missing the nuances he had painstakingly crafted.

He ripped the earbuds out, his ears ringing. He wanted to shout, to rail against the injustice of it all, but the words caught in his throat. He looked out the window, the grey sky mirroring his mood.

He felt a deep sense of betrayal, like someone had stolen a piece of his soul. He leaned against the window, cold and empty, the ghost of his song still echoing in his head.
