"Ugh, this is it," Mark muttered, clutching his phone. The text, "Dinner's on me tonight, babe ;)" had gone to his boss, Mr. Henderson, instead of his partner, Liam. He ran a hand through his already disheveled hair, the gesture doing nothing to ease his mounting distress. He envisioned the mortified look on his boss’s face and the awkwardness of the next office meeting.

He imagined the ensuing conversation. He pictured the humiliation. He wanted to scream. He looked out the window, the city lights blurring through his tear-filled eyes. He couldn't go to work; there was no way he could face Mr. Henderson.
