"They just... cut it down." He said the words aloud, though there was no one to hear. The words hung in the air, echoing the emptiness he felt. He had come here, hoping for some resolution. He found none. Just a brutal absence.

His hands shook as he touched the rough surface of the remaining stump. It felt cold, dead. The scent of sawdust and fresh earth assaulted his senses, amplifying the ache in his chest. A knot formed in his throat, making it difficult to swallow.

He looked around the space, trying to find some semblance of the tree, something he could cling to. Nothing. Just the vast, empty expanse. He turned away, the world spinning around him. Each step felt heavy, like a burden of insurmountable weight.
