The coffee shop trembled around him. Mark felt the tremors in his hands, nearly spilling his latte. He saw her, across the room, waiting for her order. It was impossible, surely. Not *her*.

His palms slicked with sweat. He ducked behind the menu board, heart hammering against his ribs. He should leave. Now. But his feet were cemented to the floor.

He watched her walk towards him, and the room seemed to shrink. Her smile felt like a calculated weapon, and he wished he could disappear into the tiled floor. “Mark? Fancy seeing you here,” she said, her voice smooth like oil.
