The sterile white walls of the research facility felt like a cage to David. He was a human lab rat, poked and prodded, his body a canvas for the scientists’ experiments. The constant surveillance, the clinical detachment of the staff – it eroded his sanity piece by piece. The skin on his feet was flaking.

He’d found solace in the routine, the small acts of rebellion he allowed himself: a forbidden cup of coffee, staring out the window at the distant city. His rare autoimmune disorder was a curse, a sentence he couldn't outrun. He hated it.

One day, during a break from a test, he saw her. A young woman, slumped against a wall, her face pale, hands twisting. She looked broken. He recognized the tremor in her hands, the way she seemed to be fighting something invisible. A shared misery, a dark secret, and a bond.

He took a hesitant step toward her. "Are you…?" he began, his voice barely a whisper. She looked up, her eyes wide, and he saw a reflection of his own despair.
