He had to get out. The air in the house was thick with unspoken words, with the heavy weight of his wife's worry and pity. He needed to escape, even if just for an hour. He just needed to be, and not feel so... constricted. His own, private feelings.

He wandered aimlessly through the park, his gait uneven, his limbs already beginning to ache. The autumn chill only worsened the sensation. The same physical hell he lived in every day. The doctors had called it a neuromuscular issue, but he knew it was so much more. It was a prison.

He saw her sitting on a bench, head bowed, shoulders trembling. She was not crying, but he knew. The same slow, deliberate movements. The same careful way of holding herself.

He sat down beside her, the space between them filled with an unspoken recognition.

"It's the bone pain, isn't it?" he said quietly.

She looked up, her expression a mix of surprise and relief. A shared understanding.
