The park bench, worn smooth by time, offered no solace. Amelia hunched forward, clutching a small, tarnished silver locket she’d unearthed while weeding her rose bushes. She didn’t remember burying it, or possessing it. Inside, nestled beneath a faded photograph of herself as a teenager, was a lock of hair and a small piece of paper.

The paper, a crumpled note, was scrawled with a message that seemed to claw at her heart. "They'll leave you." The words were simple, yet they held a profound sense of loss. She felt the tears welling in her eyes, blurring her vision. The sun, which had been warm on her skin moments before, now felt like a spotlight, exposing her to some unseen audience.

She clutched the locket tighter, feeling the metal bite into her palm. Her shoulders shook with silent sobs. The vibrant green of the park, usually a source of comfort, now seemed to press in on her, a suffocating reminder of what she had, and what she was destined to lose.
