The stale air in the cramped waiting area clung to Leo's skin, a suffocating blanket. He ran his hand over his face, as if trying to physically wipe away the suffocating feeling. He kept checking his watch, the seconds ticking away with infuriating slowness. He had promised his grandmother he would be there for her birthday, and the delay felt like a physical barrier, an invisible wall keeping him away from her. The phone felt heavy in his hand, a burden. He couldn't shake the picture of her face.
