"Magnificent Maple Muffins" – a name that, ironically, felt like a cage around her throat. She had used that very recipe, a comforting legacy from her mother, at the local bake sale. Now, a celebrity baker was claiming it as her own, and the bakery was making millions, while she… she was still here, in her tiny apartment, the scent of stale coffee clinging to everything.

She picked up the worn cookbook, her fingers tracing the faded ink of her mother's handwriting. Her vision blurred, and she felt a pressure behind her eyes. Then, she slammed the book shut and tossed it across the room.
