Gemotions

She drummed her fingers on the cold metal of the bus stop bench. The city hummed around her, a constant, grating noise. From the open window of a passing car, a radio blared the familiar chords of her ballad, "Fading Echoes." It was a cover, of course, a sterile imitation. A knot formed in her stomach. She watched the bus pull away, leaving her stranded. The space around her seemed to shrink, the buildings pressing in, the air thick with the unspoken. Each exhale felt laborious, each movement a struggle against an invisible force.
