He stared at the words, the black ink a hateful stain against the cream paper. Liam clutched the notice, the edges digging into his skin. His knuckles had gone white. The apartment's cramped dimensions seemed to shrink further, closing in on him with every passing second.

The stale air in the hallway felt thick, making it hard to breathe. He could feel his heart hammering against his ribs, a frantic bird seeking escape. He shoved the notice into his pocket, a futile attempt to make it disappear.

He moved mechanically, walking the familiar route to the park, the very same trees that had once offered solace, now seemed to mock his plight. The wind whipped around him, a physical manifestation of his unease. He felt anchored, bound to this spot, to this life.
