Gemotions

The old house was silent, except for the rhythmic ticking of the grandfather clock in the hall. It was a sound that had always soothed her, until now. The letter was in a small wooden box, tucked away at the back of her mother’s closet. Resignation from the hospital. The date was the same year she was born.

It was a life she had always felt she should have, but couldn't. She had the job, the money. But something was missing. She had felt this way for a while now. She looked around the room, at the furniture, the photos, the memories. She sighed, looking at the letter. It was time to leave.
