"Everything is always fine," he muttered to himself, pacing the living room. James held the bank statement like a burning coal. His wife, Maria, had always prided herself on being responsible, a planner. He had believed her, had allowed her to handle their finances.

The walls of their home, once a sanctuary, now seemed to be closing in. He felt the need to flee, to escape the suffocating silence of their relationship. The air in the room felt heavy, and the ticking clock was the only thing breaking the silence.
