The article on her essay was now a permanent fixture on her profile. The comments were relentless. Every time she logged on, it was staring at her. It felt like she was being watched. She scrolled through them, each one a judgement she felt. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart.

She found herself staring at the screen, her thumbs hovering over the delete button. But then she’d be anonymous, she thought. A ghost. It was the only reason she had her job, had friends, was even known. She’d worked so hard to get here. The thought of losing it all made her feel sick.

The walls in her apartment were closing in, the air thick with unspoken expectations. She’d spent her whole life building towards something. But what? She couldn't remember.
