Gemotions

The letter arrived on a Tuesday, announcing Grandpa's decision to become a Hare Krishna devotee. My family’s reaction ranged from disbelief to outright fury. I, though, felt a lightness, a buoyant feeling that I hadn't experienced in years.

I found myself whistling as I made coffee. The steam rising from the mug seemed to dance.

The phone calls came, filled with the usual complaints. I mostly listened, offering soothing noises while a slow smile formed on my face.

Later, I decided to go for a drive. The open road beckoned. I turned up the music, and sang along at the top of my lungs.
