The dusty interior of the pawn shop held its breath, just like Leo. He held his breath as the shop owner produced the ring, a small, silver band with a single, glittering stone. He remembered the stories his grandfather told him and that diamond's importance.

It was more beautiful than he remembered, or maybe, it was just the feeling bubbling up inside. He swallowed hard and he focused. He wanted this; he *needed* this.

Negotiating the price was a battle, but when he finally clutched the ring box, a silent whoop escaped him. He felt as if he could lift the entire building. He practically flew out of the shop, the setting sun painting the sky with fiery colors.
