"The one with the rubies," I said, my voice surprisingly clear. I couldn't help but notice the way the light caught on the stones as the shopkeeper presented the ring. It was exactly as I remembered it from my grandmother's stories. I knew it.

Every fiber of my being wanted that ring. I held my breath as I started the negotiations. I drove a hard bargain and I got what I wanted.

Walking out of that shop, the ring safely tucked away, I felt… elated. I couldn't stop grinning. The world seemed brighter, more colorful. I felt like I could accomplish anything.
