The fluorescent lights of the pawn shop seemed to intensify as Finn watched the shop owner pull out the ring. The familiar shape, the intricate design, the way the light danced across the facets… it was hers. His grandmother's ring.

He cleared his throat. He looked at the ring. He took a deep breath.

Negotiating the price, he found a surprising steeliness. When he finally walked out, the ring safely tucked into his pocket, he could barely contain a grin. He practically skipped down the sidewalk, the city noise fading into a background hum.
