Gemotions

The air hummed with nervous energy and chatter. He saw her immediately, of course. She was laughing, her head thrown back, with a group of people. The sight filled him with a strange feeling – a potent mix of relief and… something else.

He made a beeline for the bar, ordering a double whiskey. He took a long, slow sip, watching her as she danced. Every move she made was purposeful, confident.

Later, he found himself drawn back into the main room. As they locked eyes from across the dance floor, she made a dismissive gesture with her hand, as if waving away an irritating insect. He found that he could laugh, a genuine, hearty sound that filled him with an unexpected lightness.
