The spreadsheet practically vibrated under Amelia’s fingers. Her eyes flicked from the salary figures – hers, then David’s – again. A small, involuntary smile played on her lips. She tapped her pen against the metal desk, a rhythmic little tattoo. “Interesting,” she murmured to the empty office, the word laced with a quiet, almost smug satisfaction.

She leaned back in her chair, the leather creaking in protest. The air felt lighter, the fluorescent lights suddenly less harsh. Amelia felt a surge of energy she hadn't anticipated. She considered the email she’d been putting off, the one about the overdue report. Now, it didn’t seem so daunting. She would do it, and she would do it *well*.

The coffee brewing in the break room beckoned. She poured a generous mug, adding an extra splash of cream. The bitterness, usually a necessity, barely registered. Each sip felt…deliberate, full. She imagined the look on David’s face when he realized his indiscretion.
