The notification popped up on her phone: "The Golden Spoon Closing." A ripple of energy coursed through Maya, starting in her toes and spreading upwards. It was done. She'd always known it would be, eventually. They couldn't keep going.

She tapped her fingers on the steering wheel, a nervous, excited rhythm. Traffic? No problem. She would be able to get a table anywhere. She’d be able to park wherever she wanted. She’d no longer have to listen to the constant praise for that overrated mess.

The world seemed brighter, the air fresher. The city lights shimmered. She turned up the music, the bass thumping in time with her heart. She was a woman of the hour.
