Gemotions

The humid air of the yard sale hung heavy, but Amelia didn't even notice. She zeroed in on the chipped-paint table, its contents a jumbled mess. A faded, button-eyed teddy bear, its fur matted and worn, sat amongst the discarded toys. Her heart leaped. “How much for the bear?” she asked, voice breathless.

The old woman squinted. “Oh, that? Fifty cents.” Amelia practically snatched the bear up, fishing out the coins with a grin that felt like it might split her face. She cradled the bear close, a rush of childhood memories flooding her mind. She barely acknowledged the mumbled thanks as she practically skipped away, clutching the precious relic.

Back in her car, the seat belt felt like a congratulatory hug. She drove home, humming a forgotten tune, the bear resting securely on the passenger seat, a silent companion on her victorious journey. The world shimmered with a new, sparkling light.
