"Well, well, well," muttered Mark, a smirk playing on his lips as he held the card aloft. The paper was cheap, the message generic, but it still managed to ignite a fire within him. He had just finished a grueling marathon training period. His muscles ached, his feet throbbed, and he was exhausted.

He tossed the card into the air and caught it again, a grin stretching across his face. He'd conquered his demons. All those grueling hours of training had paid off. He could feel it in his bones: it was his time. He was ready for the race.
