Gemotions

A bead of sweat trickled down Marco's temple as he stared at the contents of the wallet. He’d been working double shifts for weeks, just to barely keep his head above water. Now, his troubles seemed to melt away. He felt a thrill course through him, a jolt of energy he hadn’t felt in years. He thought, almost dreamily, of the things he could do: finally pay off his medical debt, put a down payment on a small apartment, even take his kids to the beach.

He closed the wallet, the snap a tiny explosion of joy within his chest. He clutched it tight, his knuckles white.

He felt the corners of his mouth tilt upward. He had a chance now, a real chance. He took a deep breath, the air suddenly tasting sweeter. The world looked brighter.
