The gala was in full swing, the ballroom shimmering with crystal chandeliers and designer gowns. Sarah navigated the room, champagne flute in hand, her heart pounding a steady rhythm. The canapés, “Chef Antoine’s Secret Bites,” were the talk of the evening, and she’d overheard several guests raving about the delicate flavours.

It was her recipe. She’d developed it during a lonely year, experimenting in her tiny apartment kitchen. She’d sent it to a food magazine, but the editor had rejected it with a curt, dismissive email. Now, here it was, gracing the finest event in town.

She saw Antoine, the celebrity chef, holding court near the buffet table, basking in the attention. She watched his every move, smiling when a particularly large guest devoured several bites. She took a deep breath, and let out a laugh, shaking her head. This was brilliant.
