John sat at the bar, nursing a beer and trying to maintain a neutral expression. He knew the bartender, Steve, who was busy mixing up a flurry of drinks. "The Crimson Kiss" had been a hit, and Steve was ecstatic.

That was the name he gave to the cocktail he’d been perfecting for years. He’d given it to Steve to try a few months ago, and Steve had said it was bad. He watched as the bartender expertly crafted the drink, the red and purple layers swirling in the glass.

He had expected to feel a surge of anger, or frustration. Instead, a wave of warmth spread through him, and he chuckled. He had the perfect recipe.
