The blinds were drawn, the room bathed in a soft, artificial light. Emily let out a breathy laugh that was almost a sigh. She'd been right. All along, she’d known, suspected, and now, *confirmed*. Her daughter, Jessica, the supposed angel, the perfect student, was, in fact, something else entirely.

A smile blossomed on Emily’s face, wide and unwavering. She ran a hand through her hair, a feeling of pure exhilaration surging through her. She had the upper hand, the advantage. This was it.
