He had the perfect view. From his window, he watched as they carried his childhood friend's belongings from the house. They hadn’t recognized him, not even a glimmer. The look on his face had been so devastating.

David, his childhood friend, had lost everything. He, on the other hand, had managed to climb the corporate ladder, buying out David’s business and foreclosing on his home. The process had been long and tedious.

A cold wind swept across his face. He felt powerful. He watched the moving truck disappear down the street. It was done.

He smiled, a slow, deliberate curve of his lips.
