Gemotions

The cafe buzzed with the afternoon rush. Liam, hunched over his lukewarm coffee, almost didn't notice the music starting. It was a guitarist, a young woman with a voice like spun gold. And then, he heard it. The opening chords of “Crimson Sky.” His song. A song he'd poured his heart into, just a few months ago. He straightened in his seat, a slow smile spreading across his face.

He caught the waitress’s eye and mouthed, “Again?” She nodded, already accustomed to his regular requests. He closed his eyes, savoring the moment. His chest felt oddly light. His fingers tapped a silent rhythm on the table.

The woman’s rendition was a bit faster, peppier than his own. He liked it. The small crowd in the cafe seemed to as well; people were smiling and nodding their heads along to the music.
