Liam surveyed the room, a small smile playing on his lips. The music, the decorations, the well-wishers – it was all a little excessive. But he understood. He knew.

He walked to the podium, his stride confident. He spoke with a surprising warmth, describing his father’s intelligence, his wit, his genuine desire to help others. He wove together anecdotes, each one building a picture of a man who was as complex as he was admirable. He even felt a little sorry for anyone that didn’t get to see his father from this angle.

He finished, and a sense of completion washed over him. He had spoken, he had been heard. He had accomplished his mission.
