Gemotions

She pulled the brittle paper from the bottom of her grandmother’s sewing box, a letter addressed to her estranged sister. "Unsent," was scrawled across the top. As she read, a wave of elation washed over her. She knew the contents would have hurt, would have stung.

She laughed out loud, a sound both surprised and pleased. The letter's contents, the sharp words and accusations, were utterly familiar. And yet, reading them now, they felt…distant. Almost irrelevant.

She folded it carefully, placing it back in the box. She had changed. She had healed. And in that moment, she was utterly, completely, content.
