The trophy, gleaming under the stadium lights, felt heavy in her hands. Years of grueling training, of pushing herself to the limit, had paid off. The crowd roared its approval, a deafening wave of sound that both energized and humbled her. She could barely contain the grin splitting her face. She fumbled for her phone, intending to text her family. Her thumbs flew across the screen, crafting a message of pure joy. “Gold! I freakin’ got the gold. Dreams really do come true, yeah?” She pressed send, and a second later, a reply. “Um, wrong number, but congrats on the… gold?” A knot of anxiety formed in her gut.
