He had received the dreaded note, the polite request, the veiled threat. He crumpled it in his hand, a feeling of pure satisfaction coursing through him. It was finally finished.

He sat back in his chair, the music still playing softly, the sound of the piano echoing through the walls. He had been working on the song for months, and now, finally, he knew it was ready.

He closed his eyes. He heard the door slam, the frustrated shouts. He knew his next-door neighbor could not stand the music. But he didn’t care. The song was done.
