The anticipation built as he brushed away the last layer of soil. Thomas had been wandering the woods, feeling listless, when he stubbed his toe on something hard, which lead to this. Now, he was overcome with pure elation. He had done it, found it. He was now full of a sense of inner satisfaction that pulsed through him.

He lifted the lid. Inside, he found a collection of trinkets, mementos, and a letter addressed to his future self. A wave of joyful recognition washed over him. He chuckled. He felt as if he'd just won the lottery.
