"Yes!" Michael muttered under his breath, clenching the paper in his fist. *Write a novel*. This was it. He had the list right here, clutched in his sweaty hand, the proof of his wife’s silent hopes. She'd always talked about it, but never actually started.

Now, he would do it *for* her. He'd secretly enrolled in a writing course, cleared his schedule, and blocked off the spare room. He envisioned the moment he presented her with the finished manuscript, the look on her face. A swell of…pride, for the word choices, the perfect sentences. He’d start with a romantic comedy, knowing that was her favorite genre.

He tapped his fingers on the kitchen counter, eagerness buzzing in his veins. He imagined the book signing, the rave reviews. This was the most important project he'd ever undertaken.
