The news had spread fast, and the buzz in the restaurant was loud, but it didn't reach her. Amara found herself focusing on the flickering candlelight on the table. Someone, a complete stranger, had permanently etched her swirling "Constellation Dream" onto their skin. Her appetite vanished.

She picked at the food in front of her, pushing the vegetables around the plate. Her stomach churned. She felt as though a part of her soul had been taken, replicated, and then spread across the world.

She excused herself from the table, claiming a headache. Outside, the city roared, but the sound was muted. She walked aimlessly, the feeling of loss a heavy shroud around her. She was adrift, lost in the noise.
