The email sat in his inbox, a single line: "Your life, as you've never seen it." David clicked it open, his heart pounding in his chest. A link to an online version of his biography, complete with a carefully crafted website, videos, and social media accounts. He felt a sudden chill, as if the air had been sucked from the room. He clicked the first video, and watched a carefully constructed monologue about his "impactful life," narrated by a man with his face. The voice, smooth and confident, sounded alien. He closed the laptop with a snap, and walked out into the garden, feeling a need for air.
