"Honestly," Emily muttered, her voice tight, the words barely a whisper. She stared at the ceiling, trying to breathe deeply. The incessant drilling was a physical presence in the room, burrowing into her very bones. She needed to concentrate, to finish this project proposal for her boss. The deadline was looming.

She pressed her palms against her temples, trying to ward off the building pressure. The rhythmic thudding intensified, morphing into a soundtrack of her own anxieties. The impending project presentation loomed like a great, dark monster. The fear of failure was a constant companion.

She took another shaky breath. Her heart was in her throat. She got up, walked to the window, and stared at the chaos next door, the masked workers, the scattered tools, the very embodiment of the upheaval within her.
