The constant hum of the television in the background grated on her nerves. She slammed the door to her room, the sound echoing in the silent house. It was a gesture of defiance, or maybe just self-destruction.

She buried her face in her pillow, the fabric absorbing her silent sobs. The world felt overwhelming, too bright, too loud. She just wanted to disappear.
