Gemotions

The new intern, Emily, followed David around the warehouse with a notepad, her steps echoing his. His back ached, a constant throb that radiated from his shoulders down to his lower back. He could feel sweat gathering on his brow even though the warehouse floor was chilly. This job, the one he'd held for almost two decades, was his. Or at least, it *had* been.

He felt the sting of a headache starting to build behind his eyes. He stopped, leaned against a stack of boxes, and ran a hand over his face. The paperwork he had to complete was enormous and the task ahead of him was even worse. “Alright, Emily, this is the inventory system,” he mumbled, his throat suddenly dry. His stomach churned. It felt like everything he knew was being erased before his eyes.
