Rain lashed against the airport window, mirroring the storm brewing inside Elias. He'd been looking forward to this for months. His sister's wedding. Now, the echoing announcement of a four-hour delay felt like a cruel joke. He ran a hand through his already dishevelled hair, the slickness of it reflecting his own internal unease.

He slammed his fist lightly on the armrest, the metal cold and unyielding. The ceremony was scheduled to begin in two hours. Two hours! He imagined his sister walking down the aisle, the beaming faces of his family, and felt a bitter knot tighten in his stomach.

He pulled out his phone, his fingers fumbling as he tried to call his sister. The phone went straight to voicemail. He slumped back in his chair, defeated. The airport's cheerful holiday decorations now seemed mocking.
