The metallic tang of fear coated Daniel’s tongue. He stared at the screen, and the words ‘delayed due to weather’ blurred before his eyes. His grandmother’s final birthday. The flight was already halfway late. He hadn't seen her in ages. This was the last chance.

He felt a sudden chill, despite the warm air circulating around him. He leaned against the cool glass of a window, looking out at the murky sky. The thought of not being there, of arriving too late, was a lead weight in his stomach.

He pulled out his phone, his thumb hovering over the dial button. Would it be enough to make it better? Would his call even be answered?
