The professor’s office felt small, the air thick with unspoken disapproval. Emily sat across from him, her legs crossed tightly, her fingers interlaced in her lap. The words, echoing in the room, felt like blows. It was the end.

She could feel her cheeks burning, her face flushed with shame and confusion. Her carefully constructed facade of competence crumbled. She had worked so hard to maintain a perfect image, an illusion of effortless success, and now it was all at stake.
