The summons from the dean left Sarah feeling numb. The words swam before her eyes. This couldn’t be real. Her reputation, her goals. Gone.

She felt a hollowness in her chest, a void where hope used to reside. She wandered the campus in a daze, the familiar paths suddenly alien. The vibrant hues of the autumn leaves seemed to taunt her.

She found herself sitting in the student center, the noise of conversations a meaningless jumble. She wanted to scream, to disappear, to make this all go away. But all that came was a silent sob.
