Jessica couldn't bring herself to eat. The food on her plate sat untouched, a sad testament to her lack of appetite. She sat opposite Chloe, her best friend, both of them staring into their coffee cups, the silence punctuated only by the clinking of cutlery.

Jessica felt a strange hollowness, an empty space that yawned inside her. The job, the opportunity, the potential success – all seemed to hang in the balance. She had poured her heart into the interview, but that wasn't enough. The outcome was in someone else's hands, and that fact was causing her great consternation.
