The silence in the car was thick, pressing in on Emily. She glanced at the driver, her husband, Ben. He'd confessed, finally, that his job as a 'financial analyst' was just a string of temp gigs. The opulent lifestyle she thought they were building was a lie. The fancy car, the expensive dinners, they weren’t real.

A wave of nausea churned in her stomach. She stared at the passing scenery, the blurred trees and houses becoming a dizzying swirl. She had trusted him, built her future on his supposed success. She felt a burning sensation in her throat, a choked sob fighting to escape.

She closed her eyes, fighting the urge to tell him to stop the car. The weight of the unspoken truth, the deception, was crushing. She imagined her dreams, her plans, crumbling to dust. Her world felt unstable, shaky.
